She came close towards me, she grasped my entire hand from palm to fingertips with her hand and slowly she placed her lips near my ears. I felt like electrified and gently she whispered those three words in my ears. I was thunderstruck by her words.
A FEW HOURS EARLIER…..
By standing under the old oak, my eyes were only looking at her, by sitting cross-legged over the bench, she had her hands out stretched and playing with the rain drops. She gave a cute reaction when the coldness seeped through her gauzy gown. Her reaction gave me tingles that ran behind my backbone. I was standing there, looking at her, and laughing for no reason.
Slowly the gravel grey sky got back into cocktail blue shade. A man from the office came with the list of seating arrangement for the exam, he displayed it on the notice board, and he went back to his office. People gathered around the notice board, and there was a huge crowd. When she walked towards there I decided to follow her. When I reached the crowd, she disappeared like a glitch in the matrix.
I didn’t know what to do at that time. I searched her all over the area, she was nowhere. I checked in the waiting hall, where she was sitting during the rain. She was not there too, I felt like my heart skipped away. I felt like I was the most unlucky person, and I moved towards my exam hall with a poker face.
When I reached my hall, I saw a long queue standing before me for the verification process.
To my surprise it was such a quite big hall, where every examinee sitting rows upon rows with two on either side of each desk with heads bend over, eagerly waiting for their question papers and obviously a set of invigilators walking between the rows like jailers.
After completing my verification process I went to my seat which was near a window. Every time before the start of exam, I would like to spend my time by looking the people activities in the hall. Some look nervous and some look very serious like as their life is depended only on this exam. Surely there will be some late comers arguing with invigilators to allow them to enter the hall.
But this time I was not looking at anyone. By looking through the window I was only thinking about her. Her eyes were like almond shaped with dark brown colour. She had a wide and round face with a pointed chin with a cute and short nose with a beauty mark on the right side. She had a fair skin with rosy glow around her cheeks and her hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall. One of the most identifiable feature of her face was her smile. That particular smile has the capacity to destroy the whole world and to recreate it again.
A sudden thunder which boomed as loud as stereo, shattered my dream. When I turned aside I saw her walking towards me. I just couldn’t believe what my eyes were seeing. Slowly she walked towards me and sat in the same desk next to me. Once she settled down she turned towards me and gave a cute smile. I was drawn to the magic land of romance, and I wondered how long it will take to happen again.
So, I decided not to waste this opportunity, there was a great struggle within me, my mind and my heart.
Me: Now or never… This is the best opportunity, just talk with her.
Brain: I’ll tell you what to do.
Heart: Don’t listen to him.
Me: It’s my life, both of you shut up.
Heart: Cool.. What are you planning then?
Me: To Crack joke, being funny and to give my introduction.
Brain: Smart idea, go ahead.
Heart: What if she didn’t like your joke and think you as a dumb?
Me: I have wasted a lot of time, I had to do something so, you both stay away.
Heart: It is better you start with a Hi.
Brain: yeah!!! Go with it.
After a big debate, as my heart said I decided to start with Hi. But I was very nervous to talk, I relaxed myself and man up to start a conversation. Slowly I turned towards her, when I was about to say Hi, I was interrupted by the invigilator with an ultrasound bat voice, who shouted,” YOU MAY START YOUR EXAM”
Then I realized, why I was there that day, I looked around there was a pin-drop silence and everyone started to begin their exam. I clamped the corner of the paper between my finger and thumb, and tried to remain calm after seeing the question. After reading the whole question paper, veins in my eyes pulsated with the anguish. Life is like a battle, to survive we need to fight.
I started to answer the question of which I had intended to attempt, and I left out some questions which seemed to be difficult for me. As time passes by, the slow sound of each second was reminding me about the questions that I left out. When I checked my watch I had only fifteen minutes to complete my exam, so, I focused on left outs. I turned my head towards her to see, what she was doing. She seemed to be tensed, even with that face she looked pretty.
Once I got over with all my left outs, I began to cross verify my whole answer sheet. After a few seconds, the final bell rang, and the invigilator collected the answer sheet from the examinees. We both looked each other and heaved a sigh of relief.
Now it was the time for the final verification before everyone leaves the hall. That’s the only time I left with, to speak with her. As my heart said I decided to start with Hi. While I was planning myself, I heard a sweet voice saying Hi.. to me. When I slowly looked at her, she was waving her hand towards me with cute smile. I was in a shock and I stared at her for a few seconds without even blinking my eyes.
Brain: Shame on you bro!!!
Heart: At least speak now..
I replied her with a smile. Then we introduced each other. She looked as bright as her name implied. I should appreciate her parent for naming her in an apt way. She seemed to be too friendly. Our conversation was about the exam at first, then it went to personal things and other stuffs. She was very animated and her hands were always in motion when she was talking, and she also gave a cute smile in between her talks.
My happy moments didn’t last very long, once again the invigilator with the ultrasound bat voice shouted, all to leave the exam hall, as the verification process is done. It was the time to move on. We both walked towards the exit. We stood outside the exam hall looking at each other. Finally, I decided to confront to her. Thinking, that might be my last opportunity. So, I didn’t want to waste it.
With all my courage, I looked at her and I said, “ the moment I saw you first I fell for you. I actually had no idea how to get away from it. To be frank, I don’t want to get away from it. I want to live the rest of my life with you. Will you be my better half?”
She was shocked by my words. We were surrounded by a cloud of silence. We both were looking at each other, and we didn’t utter a single word. Once again a sudden thunder which boomed as loud as stereo broke our silence. Thanks to that thunder!!!
